2010 NHL Draft: Draft Table Riders Exposed

Just like your favorite musicians, NHL GMs also have peculiar requests when setting up shop abroad. Take a look at some of the items that  general managers have requested for the upcoming NHL draft:

Boston Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli requested that his table be stocked with gifts that he can hand over to Brian Burke every 15 minutes on Friday…

George McPhee hopes that the custom-made milk cartons he requested will help aid in his search for a Russian who went missing in April…

Steve Tambellini was pressured by the city to bring thousands of these Edmonton Tourism pamphlets to distribute around the arena, since Friday will be the first time in 20 years that Edmonton actually matters…

Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman requested an eye-catching banner which he plans to park a bunch of his players under in hopes of enticing other GMs…

Since May, Canucks GM Mike Gillis won’t go anywhere without his dart board, so naturally this was his only request…

With lots of time to kill on Friday, Brian Burke requested his table be stocked with something that he can use to keep himself busy, and still make himself the center of attention…

Panthers GM Dale Tallon requested the services of the Travelocity gnome for his table. We believe he needs assistance to coordinate the massive exodus of dead weight out of Florida…

Lou Lamoriello requested a table up front and a case of projectiles which he can throw on stage whenever another team drafts a player he wanted…

Looks like Calgary Flames fans doctored their team’s rider with the hopes of giving Darryl Sutter something productive to do during the first round, rather than him using that time to make “schrewd” Darryl Sutter moves…

Finally, on the heels of trading Halak and giving Plekanec a 6 year term at $5 million per, it’s little wonder that the Montreal Canadiens requested what they requested…

I want some of what Gauthier is having!

kevin, having had some of what gauthier requested was what made me able to endure the awards show ;)

a big LOL to bof – louies jam, the dartboard and of course the hilarious image of burke blowing a vuvuzela during the whole draft made my evening!

continuing the hockey talk in the comments:

the hawks still need to move some players, so i’m also very interested in seeing where versteeg will land.
damn, the chokes (er, sharks) re-signed marleau. i was so sure he’d be going to the kings … but at least wilson showed some wits in showing nabby the door.

“Nabby (has been a big part of this team for the past 10 seasons and) played an important role is our successes.”

either he means it or it’s some mean irony bordering on sarcasm that even terry pratchett would be proud of :D

    totally forgot the world cup!

hey, whaddabout an argentinia – germany matchup in the quarterfinals? you gotta hope it’s gonna be penalty shots then again, even though we don’t have lehmann and his famous piece of paper anymore ;)

Not sure what I think about the Marleau signing. When he’s on then it’s a fair contract. I think $6m, though, would seem more “right” to me.

    I like Pavelski at $4m.

    Soccer:

Yeah, Argentina would have been better off finishing second and avoiding Germany/England in the quarters. Whichever team wins (eng/ger) should be riding high on momentum and will be a difficult match.

The other part of the bracket looks much weaker. Hard to believe that the US have a decent shot at getting to the semis after being minutes away from not advancing.

Did you catch Italy getting ousted today? Quite the entertaining last 15 minutes in that game.

  5. ZING!!

Hilarious, BoF. I especially liked the Gauthier and Edmonton ones. We, the internet, needs more posts like this!

  6. admin says:

If the Habs invite me to sit at their draft table, I’ll become very creative and make posts like this daily!

  7. rouven says:

    yea riiight … LOL
so give us some more stoned postings ;)

sure i watched the italians blaming themselves. that’s payback for 2006, sort of. i guess. whatever – enjoyed it!
now the qualification round is finally over and tomorrow … let the games begin! yeehaw :D

i’m following the draft via buzzing the net live chat and i’m advertising bof there. hope it’ll help ;)

oh, and that toskala-imitation of the south korean keeper just now was pretty good, too. he must’ve rehearsed a lot …

round 1 of the draft was stunning. i hate the ducks for lucking into fowler. damn! but then, niedermayer presenting the jersey was awesome. one has to wonder how this could not have been planned *g*

looked like the canadiens had something different on their table … more like some speed? with that 6’6”-hulk their size increases a lot. nice move.

how neither the isles nor the jackets got a great dman is beyond my understanding, they need just that … but still guess they know what they were doing. oh, and niederreiter translates to “rides ‘em down”, that’s a effin great hockey name!

ballard to the ‘nucks also makes sense. this is just the motivation and some kind of threat louie might need, eh?

    Rouven,

With 2-0 Germany 32 minutes in, they look really on. Worried for my Argentina squad going in the next round! Not that I’m looking ahead (that’s a lie, I am).

    re: hockey

I did a new post after the first round, it addresses most of the stuff.

    A few things to add:

The three picks that really surprised me were Tampa not taking a dman, Rangers taking McIlrath at #10 and Dallas passing on Fowler or Gormley and drafting Campbell.

Okay it’s 2-1 now as I finish writing this, and England just scored a 2-2 goal that the refs ruled as not going over when in fact it did. Oh boy, this is going to be an epic game, and postgame!
